Explore more history

The Hopkins Family has farmed this land going on 7 generations. The main farm was purchased in 1867 but we have found historic documents dating back to the Civil War noting service of several Hopkins in the 9th Regiment Delaware Infantry.

We farm 1000 acres. Approximately ⅔ of the land has been placed in farmland preservation. Each generation has evolved and adapted the farm to both family and community needs.

History of the Farm

Get to know us

Our Great, great, great, great-grandfather William Hopkins, purchased this land in 1867 and the Hopkins have farmed ever since.  Currently, the 4th, 5th and 6th generation of Hopkins are all living and working on the farm.  We currently farm approximately 1000 acres of beautiful farmland.  Much of the land has been placed in Farmland Preservation to ensure it will remain farmland for generations to come.

The Hopkins Family continues to evolve and push the boundaries of what it means to be modern-day farmers.  We are determined to create a world class destination experience for travelers, locals, young, old and everyone in between.

We are the children of children of farmers. The stewards of the land, the keepers of the harvest, and our connection with this place is sacred.

As part of our long-term vision, Hopkins Farm is proud to be the future home of the Learning Center at the American Center for Farming Heritage. This educational facility, planned for construction in 2027, will serve as a regional hub for hands-on agricultural learning, cultural preservation, and community engagement.

Through exhibits, interactive programming, and school partnerships, the Learning Center will share the rich legacy of farming on the Delmarva Peninsula and inspire the next generation of stewards, innovators, and advocates for American agriculture. More than just a building, the Learning Center will be a place to connect with the land, honor the past, and shape the future.
